Review of the Peace Rally By David Irvine

I found the rally VERY disappointing and somewhat concerning!

The turnout was huge (1 to 2 million). People from all walks of life had come to protest against the unilateral push to war by Bush & Blair.

As most of you are aware I am by no means a pacifist, and regard Saddam Hussain as one of the most dangerous people on the planet.

This however in my opinion is not justification for bombing the hell out of Iraq and killing innocent Iraqis.

Did the bombing of Afghanistan (and the killing of 8000 Afghanistan civilians) bring back a single person killed in America?

I thought it amusing that Tony tried to get the march banned on health and safety grounds! Perhaps he can apply this policy to the impending war in Iraq?

Anyway The reason why I was VERY disappointed....

The event was organised by 3 groups

There where as many Palestinian flags and banners as stop the war banners.
The event was hijacked!
Linking the Iraq and Palestinian issue is stupid and dangerous!

The speakers included:--

In summary this event was a front for British anti Zionism and anti Semitism. I am fearful that there are dangerous times ahead. Not one speaker who mentioned the Palestinians (which was all but 2!) mentioned the Palestinian assisted suicide bombers, or that Palestine openly supports and uses terrorism! This duality of ethics will be the death of rationality in Britain.

I understand from friends and family that at the demonstration in New York no one did linkage, however the police where very obstructive in not allowing people to join the demonstration there.
